Short Assignment: System Evaluation

The purpose of the short assignment on systems evaluation is to develop and carry out a test of a particular computer system's weaknesses and vulnerabilities.

Identify a system that you have access to or can otherwise test with permission. Come up with a set of tests, including vulnerability and penetration testing -- you do not need to assume you are an "outsider." Carry out some or all of the tests, and make a report recommending fixes.

The specific requirements are:

1. Identify and describe the system you are evaluating. 2 points.
2. Develop and present evaluation criteria. 10 points.
3. Carry out the test and report findings. 5 points.
4. Make recommendations. 3 points.

The outcome of your work should be a Web page (linked to the Projects page for the class) with your written report on the above. Effective presentation, communication and use of language are criteria for all 4 requirements.

Your report should be about 500-1500 words, and may include screen dumps or other output from the programs you use.
