Format Notes for these Documents

To the extent possible, these documents are available in identical form on the Web and on CD-ROM. This is intended to make it easier for reviewers to examine the documents in detail and to supply the reviewers with information that is best viewed in a non-print format.

For internal SILS use, a full printed packet was generated. External reviewers only received a subset of these materials on paper, with the rest on CD or the Web. Print items sent to external reviewers are as follows (this is a subset of what is listed in the Contents Page):

  Specific notes about the formatting and variation of the content:

  • The URL for these documents online is http://ils.unc.edu/gbnewby/tenure.
  • Class materials online and on CD-ROM include the full current syllabus with working links to class notes and student assignments. The print version contains only the basic syllabus and class schedule.
  • The vita and annotated list of publications both contain links to publications.
  • Most publications are in PDF format. Some, especially the quantitative teaching evaluation forms, are fairly large files.
  • The SILS Policy Document on Promotion and Tenure is not included in the print version, since it is anticipated that persons receiving the printed materials will also get a copy of the SILS policy.
  • Several items are not available online or on the CD. These include:
    • Quantitative teaching reports from 2000
    • Several pre-1997 papers referenced in my vita
  • Copies of presentations and other non-refereed articles appearing in my vita are not supplied in printed format, however these items are available online and on the CD.
  • The online version and CD contain significantly more information that was not required by SILS. In particular, my vita contains many live links, including grant proposals, presentations and other materials.
